An ancient process, encaustic painting was invented by the Greeks around 800BC. The encaustic artist heats beeswax, damar varnish and pigment to a semi-liqud state and paints the warm blend onto high-quality paper mounted on a wooden panel. Using a heat gun the layers of color are then fused to achieve the desired results. The surface can then be incised or burnished. After hardening, the work may be buffed to a shine or left with a matte finish. click any of the images above to view. |
